[INTERVIEW] JUSTIN TAYLOR

first off - DOWNLOAD THE MIXTAPE HERE. its good. trust me.
now for the interview:
-------
When did you first know you wanted to be a musician?
Probably around the beginning of my freshman year in high school. I used to think most of my classes were beyond boring, so I would bring a little notebook and my iPod to school and write lyrics all day. By the end of that year I had written about three notebooks worth of stuff, and from there on I felt like this was definitely what I should be doing.
What in your life do you draw inspiration from?
I used to think that a lot of my inspiration came from people, you know, the great artists that have come before like B.I.G, Pac, Slick Rick and such. Once I started growing up though, I realized I definitely wrote better when I drew from things that had happened in my life and emotions that I had been feeling. I felt like that was the best way to truly feel connected to what I was doing.
What is your creative process when making a song?
Well since "The Game" is the one track I actually oversaw from start to finish, that's probably the best complete experience I had in making a song. For me, it's usually something in my day that may spark a line, or a few lines in my head, or even a melody. Once that happens I reach for either my blackberry, or a piece of paper, and put down as much as I can remember from what it was that came to my head. With "The Game" it was actually my girlfriend telling me to "smile like you mean it" and then the Mika song, "Any Other World", immediately popped in to my mind. From there I did the sample, laid down some drums and you can probably get the idea from that point on.
How do you write your lyrics?
Like I said, through high school I was putting everything down in notebooks, there's probably 15-20 of them put away in my house. Nowadays it's usually the blackberry, since most of my ideas come when I'm not at home.
Do you have a timeline for your next project?
Not at the moment, but it's already being worked on, I assure you that.
EDITORS NOTE: definitely be on the lookout for some sTuckBeats on that.
What artist would you most like to work with?
Living or dead? If we could get a zombie Biggie in the studio then I would definitely be all for that. If we don't have Dr. Frankenstein though, then I'm going to have to say Bobby Ray. The guy is just an all around musical genius, and that's something that I think the whole world is going to find out soon.
What producer?
I'm sorry Spence, I'ma let you finish, but Kanye is the best of all time. So it's definitely him. *kanye shrugs*
EDITORS NOTE: no hard feeling justin, kanye is my favorite producer, too.
What are the best/worst parts of being a musician?
Well it's all about the fans. The best part of being a musician is when another person out there actually enjoys something that you created. The worst part...when someone hates on something that you created. You never really are going to find one without the other though, so I'm learning to let the praise drown out the hate.
How do you feel about the critics?
I have no problem with a critic who knows what they're talking about. If someone can offer legitimate constructive criticism then that only helps me, and makes me a better artist in the long run. The problem is the "critics" who don't know a thing about what they're critiquing and offer you critique in the form of "you suck", "this shit is wack" and my favorite "you're terrible".
--------
there you have it. be on the lookout for BIG BIG BIG things with me and justin in the future.
